Jet is fossilized wood, compressed over millions of years into a light, warm-to-the-touch black stone. Unlike obsidian or onyx, jet feels almost weightless in the hand and holds warmth from body heat.

It's one of the oldest protection stones in the record. Roman soldiers carried it, Victorian widows wore it, and it still shows up on the desks of people whose work involves absorbing other people's grief or intensity.
