Sunstone

Captured sunlight, joy, warmth, and the confidence to shine.

Sunstone is exactly as cheerful as it sounds. Warm peachy-orange with tiny glittering flecks that catch the light like sun on water, it practically radiates good mood. It's the counterpart to moonstone: where moonstone is cool, inward, and intuitive, sunstone is warm, outward, and bright. It's the stone of joy, vitality, and stepping into your own light without apologizing for taking up space.

I reach for it on the grey days, the low-energy, dimmed-down, forgot-how-to-enjoy-things days. It's also a wonderful leadership and confidence stone, good for anyone who tends to shrink back, defer, or dim themselves so others feel comfortable. Sunstone says: shine. The world needs your warmth, not your smallness.

If you've been dimmed down and want your joy and confidence back, this is your stone.

Care and Maintenance

Sunstone is reasonably hard and low-maintenance. You can rinse it, and it holds up to daily carry. Cleanse it with smoke, sound, moonlight, or water; charge it in morning sunlight if you like, a fitting match for its energy.

Shopping Guide

For a first piece, a tumble or palm stone shows the warm color and glittery flash; tilt it to the light to see it sparkle. Look for good inner glitter. Sunstone is typically mined in India.

A couple of sunny ones to begin with:

One small thing to try tonight

Think of one place lately where you dimmed yourself so someone else would be comfortable, stayed quiet, downplayed a win, shrank a little. Hold your sunstone and picture doing that moment again at full brightness. Then carry the stone tomorrow as a small permission slip to take up your whole space.
